Clare, human or hamster?

Finally, I have some peace.  On Wednesday Clare had all four wisdom teeth removed – now there is no hope for her gaining any.

She is doing well, and hasn’t been rendered anywhere near the mute I had been promised.  In fact, with all the dribbling, crying and sleeping it is hard to tell that she has had anything done.  Except she looks like a cross between Clare, a hamster and a chipmunk.  Here’s hoping we can squeeze a Christmas hit out her before she heals.

Clare the next Alvin?

Now, I’m dead.

It hurts to laugh

and she is wielding ice cubes in a cloth.

The peril of being green

Suppose I should detail what has befallen me.  Just to get it all down it one place, and out of my head.

The short version is

Some useless git drove his van into me as I cycled to work.

Well, if there is a short I suppose I should actually give a fuller account of myself.

Firstly I should probably set the scene.  It was a dry, clear January day.  I was following my normal route to work – Grange Lane North then onto Brigg Road.  Just short of the traffic lights at the junction of these two roads there is a t-junction.

It is an industrial area, with good open views in all directions down the practically straight road.

I was cycling across the mouth of the t-junction when a van turned right from Grange Lane (he was traveling from the Brigg Road end) and t-boned me.

I had seen him approach the junction, and thought that he had stopped.  In conversation with the police, he admitted that he just didn’t seem me.  After all I was hard to spot in my hi-vis riding in perfect visibility.

I took the impact on my right side, leaving me with some nice bruises down that side, a real pain in my shoulder and a broken leg.  Proper broken, with both bones out of line.

I also discovered that the idiot had no sense of humor to match his limited awareness of other road users.

They manged to set the bone in A&E, and in the process I discovered the joys of gas and air.  I then had to have a night in the trauma ward for observation.

Apparently it is a clean fracture, and I should be able to get away with nothing more than a plaster cast.  However, there is still a chance that if it does not fuse correctly it will require pinning – more time in hospital, deep joy.

Now, I’m facing at least twelve weeks in plaster, and the prospect of further surgery.  Take my advice, drive to work – morons in white vans will probably see you then.

Can anyone recommend any good books or films?

Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

Since the accident, I seem to keep recounting the same stories and information.  Well, I have this blog setup – so I may as well put it to use.  So, let’s thinks of this as a statment of intent.  I’ll post all about what happened etc – and then keep posting updates and maybe even a bit of introspection.

Think of it as both a place for news about the leg and some introspection and maybe random musing.  As the title hints, this is my catharsis.

Enjoy.
